2023 marks PressBox’s seventh annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best Treasure
While the controversy surrounding Bob Baffert’s return from suspension received most of the attention around May’s 148th Preakness Stakes, winner National Treasure offered quite the stirring run to the second leg of the Triple Crown.
Former Johns Hopkins lacrosse player Sol Kumin received the Woodlawn Vase as the owner of the horse, his third Preakness win as an owner.
Unfortunately for Kumin, his Blue Jays weren’t quite able to make it a perfect weekend, as they fell to eventual national champion Notre Dame in the NCAA quarterfinals a day later in Annapolis.
