Pete Alonso, Rico Garcia, Jaylinn Hawkins and Chandler Rivers recently chatted with Glenn Clark Radio. Here’s what they had to say.
“I’m just so tickled pink to be here and represent this city and this organization. And for me, I want to play as hard as I can every day. I want to work as hard and diligently as I possibly can and do whatever I can to help this team win. Like, I am willing to go to the ends of the earth. I’m willing to do whatever to bring this team and this city success.”
– Orioles slugger Pete Alonso May 22 on adjusting to life in Baltimore and his outlook during his first season as an Oriole
“I had to accept that it’s a business and they’re going to make the decisions based on what they feel is best. So it doesn’t matter what I think about the outcome. So removing the added pressure kind of just took away all the things that didn’t really matter. And then I just started to focus more on just pitching, basically.”
– Orioles reliever Rico Garcia April 10 on how he was able to stop feeling the pressure of his fate resting on every big league outing
“Creative, smart, ball-hawking, playmaking defense. For real, that’s how I describe it. Very smart situationally. Allows you to play free, allows you to go do what you do. And it helps people play to their strengths.”
– New Ravens safety Jaylinn Hawkins May 28 on his expectations for head coach Jesse Minter’s defense
“Obviously I thought I should have [gone] higher in the draft, but I believe in God and I feel like everything happens for a reason. When I got that call, it was just a relief. And throughout the whole draft process, throughout all the Zoom meetings and everything, I was just like, ‘If I could choose one place that I want to be, I want to be in Baltimore.'”
– Ravens rookie cornerback Chandler Rivers April 30 on how ending up in Baltimore made up for his disappointment of slipping to the fifth round of the draft
