Offensive lineman Emery Jones Jr. is excited to begin his second season with the Baltimore Ravens after missing much of 2025 due to recovery from shoulder surgery.
Jones was selected in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Ravens after playing for LSU for three years. Jones underwent shoulder surgery shortly after last year’s NFL Scouting Combine, missing all offseason practices and returning to the practice field on Oct. 1.
“It’s been really fun to be able to learn new guys, figure new guys out, see who’s good at what and who does what,” Jones said on Glenn Clark Radio June 12. “I feel like we have a really close group, a really close team.”
The 6-foot-5, 320-pound offensive lineman was on the field for 49 offensive snaps in five games last season. Jones is excited to learn from new Ravens offensive coordinator Declan Doyle and offensive line coach and run game coordinator Dwayne Ledford.
“I feel like Coach Doyle’s offense, everything’s kind of calculated,” Jones said. “Everything that we’re doing, from the way that we block, from the way we have receivers coming in and helping. Whatever we’re doing, everything is very calculated.”
“Coach Ledford is just a great dude,” the offensive lineman added. “I feel like he’s really gaining the trust of the O-line, I feel like his philosophy is something we all stand by, something that we all believe in.”
Jones has also appreciated learning from some of longtime Ravens such as offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley.
“I’ve been trying to stick around him a lot more. I think he’s going into his 11th year now. I know that comes with a lot of knowledge and it comes with a lot of learning and figuring stuff out the hard way,” Jones said. “I try to take as much info as I can from him. I try to be a sponge around him.”
Baltimore signed offensive guard John Simpson in free agency, then drafted two more offensive linemen in first-rounder Vega Ioane and seventh-rounder Evan Beerntsen. Jones said his goal is to be the best player for others to be around regardless of where he plays along the line.
“Whatever Coach tells me to do, wherever he needs me, I’m going to get in there and do my best at it,” Jones said. “I feel like Coach has a lot of confidence and he likes how I’m versatile and play a couple positions. I’m just going to keep building on it.”
The Ravens’ 2025 season ended at 8-9 following a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2021. Jones said that some of the guys still have a “bitter taste” about how the season ended.
“I feel like it’s still a little bit of a bitter taste,” Jones said. “I feel like we’re all fighting to get back to that spot and be able to win it when it matters most.”
Jones added the importance of winning Week 1 in the upcoming season and taking it one game at a time.
“We’re all kind of focused on getting ready for that Game 1 and winning that Game 1, then being able to focus on going to Week 2 and focusing on winning Week 2.”
