2023 marks PressBox’s seventh annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best Renovated Venue
While sporting events have been limited so far, February’s CIAA Men’s & Women’s Basketball Tournament (won by the Winston-Salem State men and the Elizabeth City State women) gave us the first glimpse of a remodeled CFG Bank Arena downtown.
Combining the lower and middle levels of the arena stood out, as did the improved sound system and amenities.
While officials have maintained that the building will be more of a concert venue than a sports facility (and will not host season-long “minor league” types of tenants), there is hope to bring more major events to the facility in the future.
